Despite living in land-locked Leicestershire, Robert (Bob) Petcher has a passion for all things coastal and he communicates this relationship through his art.
In the last year, visits to The Gower Peninsular, North Yorkshire and East Anglia have provided him with inspiration for a series of works in acrylic on canvas, designed to transport him back to the places he loves. His work arises from a desire to chronicle his travels which he describes as ‘Impressions of the Land & Sea’ a never ending work in progress!
Self–taught, 61 year old, Bob has been painting since the early nineties and works from his own original photographs. Initially he covered a wide range of subjects but has more recently focussed on dramatic seascapes and beach scenes from around the coast of Britain.
He works mainly in acrylics but also enjoys watercolour.
His family originate from a farm close to the Wye Valley, so it is not surprising that he has a special connection with Wales and his paintings of the beaches and bays around the Gower Peninsular convey a striking sense of place. He is returning to Wales soon, visiting Cardigan Bay where he plans to gather even more reference for his stunning, atmospheric seascapes.
