Bethan Williams was born in Beddau, South Wales and was taught to sow at the age of 6 and it has been a part of her life ever since.
For the last 5 years she has been perfecting a process to allow her to bring out digital art into feasible objects and move up to be a full time professional artists.
She managed to master an artistic level of detail enhancing her cross stitch craftsmanship into high quality art, making her one of the top cross stitch artists now a days in the UK.

The Creation Process

The process starts with a picture (drawn or digital) which is converted to a detailed grid specifying each colour, driving the colour palate - normally using between 50 to 80 colours depending on the level of detail she’d like to show.
It is a lengthy process with each piece taking up to 400 hours to complete and get built section by section with little room for error.

Artistic journey

Through cross stitch training kits that allowed her to technically improve, she fast learned the flexibility and possibility of the medium and focused on creating in her own interpretation of the method and master cross stitch through meticulous work that expresses the process itself.

The Grid

It took years of trial and error of creating digital grids converting images into “direction maps”. In order to master the process, Bethan is using computer coding systems to generate the grids and work through them with the excellence of a human touch. This method also echoes the theme of her work which is breathing through a pixelated reality.
